When the romans left , the germanic tribes started raiding britain but already by the 5-th century a.d. the saxons. angles and jutes had occupied the country. these wild tribes destroyed the beautiful towns, buildings and roads. they preferred to settle in small villages. the anglo-saxons established a number of kingdoms . later the dialect of the angles became predominant and the new name of england was given to the whole country.
