b. Stay alert and look ahead. Bear tracks are unmistakable - a five-toed footprint,
as long as yours, but almost twice as wide.

in bear-resistant containers away from your camp. Don't leave anything be-
hind.
d. Change your route if necessary. Keep your distance all times. Even at 100
yards a bear may begin to feel crowded.

8. Animals fed by people lose their natural food-finding instincts and their fear of
people.
h. Do not use perfumes or deodarants while hiking. Keep your clothes and
equipment free of food odors.
