1 I looked in the situations vacant pages of the local papers where an accounting company was advertising for accountants for a new financial department.

2 I turned out to be a successful applicant and took up the post in November.

3 I was looking for a more stimulating environment and this company offered this.

4 They were using a recruitment agency to find them and promised that training would be given.

5 After this the company shortlisted three or four candidates.

6 I applied for the job by completing an application form.

7 As I accepted the job, they hired me.

8 I sent in my CV and enclosed a covering letter for their consideration explaining why I wanted the job and why I was the right person for it.

9 I did not hear anything for 5 weeks, so I phoned the company.

10 So far, over 50 people had applied for the post.

11 They checked my references by writing to my referees: previous employers and teachers I named in my applications.

12 The head of recruitment at a company looked at my backgrounds: my experience of different jobs, my educational qualifications and my driving licence.

13 I was not asked for handwritten letters of application as I usually apply by email.

14 I was asked to do written psychometric tests to assess my intelligence and personality.

15 As my references were OK, they asked me to come back for more interviews.

16 I thought that I had a good chance of getting the job.

17 The post offered a starting salary of $10,000 per month.

18 They told me that they had received a lot of applications.

19 I also saw a job in the appointments pages of one of the national papers.

20 The most interesting candidates were invited to a group discussion. Then I had an individual interview.

21 Finally, a few days later they offered the job to me. I did not turn it down as I had already turned down two job offers.
