ТЕКСТ 3
Once upon a time there lived a poor family - Mary and John. They lived in a small village Digging the ground in the garden John found a bottle full of gold. He was glad that nobody had seen him. When he brought it home, he said to his wife: “Look! God has sent us a lot of money. But where can we hide it?” Mary suggested putting it under the floor of their house. So John did.
Soon after that Mary went to see her friend. John realized that very soon the whole village and the lord would know their secret because his wife was a dreadful gossip. So he took the gold and hid it in the yard.
When Mary came back, John told her that the next day they would go to the forest to pick up fish. He said that there was a lot of fish there. Mary couldn’t believe it and she wanted to see it with her own eyes. Early in the morning John got up, took some fish, some sweet cake and a killed hare and went to the forest. He had bought all those things at the market, but Mary didn’t know about it. He put the fish and the cakes in different parts of the forest. Then he hooked the hare on a fishing line and threw it into the river. Then he went home. After breakfast he took Mary to the forest. Although Mary was very surprised when she saw the fish and the cakes, she gathered them into her basket. When John showed her that he had fished a hare out of the river, Mary cried: “How strange!”
In a day or two John was told to come to the house of the lord. The land of the village belonged to him. John realized that the lord had learnt about the gold. He thought that Mary’s friend had told him about it. When John and Mary came to the lord, the lord said: “Your wife told me that you had found a lot of gold. The land of the village is mine and the gold is mine.” John said: “My wife doesn’t know what she says because she is mad.” But Mary protested: “I have told the truth. He has found a lot of gold and hid it under the floor of our house. He did it on the eve of the day when we went to the forest to pick up fish and cakes, and on the way home John fished a fine hare out of the river.”
The lord said that the woman was mad. Nevertheless, he sent his servants to look for the gold under the floor of John’s house, but nothing was found. So John saved his gold.
