Some years ago, i (1 - to hire) by an american bank. i (2 -to receive) a letter from the head of the personnel department that (3 - to start), "dear john, i (4 - to be pleased) quite that you (5 - to decide) to join us". that "quite" (6 - to depress) me. then i (7 - to discover ) that in american english "quite" sometimes (8 - to mean) "very", whereas in british english it (9 - to mean) "fairly". so the first lesson about working in other countries (10 - to be) to learn the language and by that i (11 - not/to mean) just the words people speak. it (12 - to be) body language, dress, manners, ideas, the things that people (13 - to do) - their behaviour. the way people behave (14 - to highlight) many of the differences we (15 - to see) between cultures. some of these differences may (16 - to be) only on surface -dress, food, hours of work - while others may (17 - to be) deeper and (18 - to take) longer to deal with. времена !
