The Importance of Learning Foreign Languages
English is becoming the international language of business and society. The reasons for learning English are varied, but the importance of learning it is evident.
These are some of them. It’s possibility to converse with people from other countries or of different nations, communicate with them, learn about their cultures, work with them or do business. Besides, studying another language helps you become more competitive when you need to get a good job. We need foreign languages for traveling abroad, for reading foreign materials (books, newspapers), for business communication, for cultural reasons. Even if your potential clients speak English, there isn’t a better way to understand their needs and cultural desires than to learn their language. It helps make first impression, and it shows that you are willing to go above and beyond to maintain the relationship. In many cultures, attempting to speak the language is viewed as a sign of respect and has the potential to open doors in the future.
There are various ways to learn foreign languages. Usually people start to learn a foreign language at basic school and then they continue at secondary school. Evidently at university students study some foreign language. Many people come to foreign countries to improve their language. People can also attend language schools or summer language course. There are for example special projects and ventures in General, Technical or Business English. We can also learn some language while surfing the Internet, watching TV, reading books or magazines. When studying English we have to answer a few questions. How well can people master the language in a short period of time? What kind of goal should the students set in their learning? What can parents do to help their children learn a new language outside school? What advice we can give to students learning a new language?

VI. Translate the text in writing:
First people who influenced the English language were the Celts. Many words come from the Romanic time. The Romans came in 43 B.C. and they brought Latin. In the 5th century the Anglo-Saxons came from Germany, Holland and Denmark. They brought Anglo-Saxon language on which most of English is based and it’s called Old English. In the 8th century the Vikings brought Norse language. In 1066 William the Conqueror, at the head of the Normans, defeated Harold Godwin and brought the French language. From 14th century many English words were borrowed from other languages like Ancient Greek. In 200 years, Old English changed into Middle English. Ordinary people used Anglo-Saxon language, church and educated people used Latin and Greek and nobility used French. Since 1400 all country used English.
English is a member of an Indo-European language family which includes ancient languages -- Ancient Greek and Latin, Asian languages, Slavonic languages and European languages.
