Reading I Semester PARABLE

Once upon a time there lived a king and he had a son. When his son grew up he decided to leave his father's home and to see the land. So he said, "Good-bye" to his father and relatives and rode his horse away.
On the other side of the kingdom there was a small mountain village. On that day all the people of this village gath¬ered together in church to pray and to ask God to help them.
As a matter of fact every Sunday the gi¬ant who lived on the top of the moun¬tain came down to the village and asked somebody to fight against him. But eve¬rybody was scared and frightened. And the giant took the prettiest girl to the mountains.
At that time the prince came to the vil¬lage and was surprised to find it empty. He went to church and saw all the people there. They told him about their problem and the prince agreed to help
them. And suddenly they heard approaching steps, and a loud voice speaking: "Who is going to fight against me today?" "I am", the prince said. "You? A common man? Ha! Ha! Ha! Let's try". When the prince saw the gi¬ant he was terrified of him but he remembered what he promised the peo¬ple. He closed his eyes and took the first step. To his surprise when he opened his eyes he saw that the giant became one foot shorter. He took the second step and the giant became one more foot shorter. The prince came closer and closer to the giant. And when he took his last step he saw a small man ly¬ing on the ground. "What is your name?" asked the prince. The answer was, "Fear".
