Olesya, Year 6
I live in the country. Such places always have positive and negative aspects, but I love my quiet life. I am not a fan of the fast rhythm of a big city. I don't need all these modern things to make my life easier. After school I usually help my mum on the farm and then spend my free time somewhere in the wild. It's great fun to enjoy local nature with its beautiful waterfalls and forests. I paint my pictures there. I dream of being an artist, by the way. However, my mates don't understand me — they are always complaining about the lack of entertainment and they would like to leave this place once they finish school. At least that's their choice. I've already made mine.
Misha, Year 5
I love trying something new — it is really cool. My school started offering a course in ice cream making and cocktail making classes. I have been dreaming of being a cook all my life! I've tried to make a lot of desserts and made dozens of YouTube videos, so I am a bit popular, you know. That's why I took these courses with great pleasure. Three months later I became the best at making cocktails in the group! But you know what? My parents don't want me to go there any more. They say it's too expensive for them to pay for the courses and buy all these ingredients! I was so sad and was trying to organise a local market, you know, a fair to sell my desserts and get some money, but I couldn't. My town is too small to organise such events. What a shame!
Inna, Year 5
I have been dreaming about the career of a dancer since I first saw Carlos Acosta dancing in the Bolshoi Theatre. It was a school trip to the capital of my country. So, I have danced every day ever since. I attended a local dance school, but it was so boring and not modern. Now I have to watch YouTube videos to know what's trending. I dance at my school and at home, but that's not enough. Our town is too small to organise festivals or concerts, where I could show my talent. So, I master my craft and dream of performing somewhere on a big stage. Maybe one day I'll be a superstar.
Andrew, a teacher
I live in the suburbs but work in the centre of a big city. My school is quite nice with all the modern conveniences, but it is only because of its location. I am very lucky to work here, not in the school near my house which is very old and ugly because there is no money to repair it. This difference between the centre and suburbs is problematic. The area where I live in is really awful, with no sport clubs and places of entertainment. Our local park is a total disaster. It is covered with rubbish, and nobody knows what to do with it. All this stuff leads to problems with teenagers. Those who have the opportunity to go to the centre every day can have a good education and do different free-time activities, but there aren't many people like that.
Igor, a parent
I live in the city centre, which provides an opportunity for my children to have a good education and develop. However, the park nearby is a real problem. There is too much rubbish there, so it is even dangerous to walk there or have picnics. I am always quite worried when my children play games or just have fun there. I was trying to solve the problem by organising a cleaning day. Some people came once, but nobody came back. It was a total failure. OK, if people find it difficult to clean, why are they still so messy? I have to clean the park by myself every Saturday because I am worried about my children's health. If I don't do this, nobody will.
