Past Simple - He played the piano yesterday. 
Past Continuous - He was playing the piano when a phone rang. 
Past Perfect - He was confused because he had never played the piano before.
Past Perfect Continuous - He had been playing the piano for 2 hours when the teacher came. 
Future Simple - He will play the piano tomorrow. 
Future Continuous - He will be playing the piano from 2 to 4 tomorrow. 

Present Simple - He writes books. He is a writer. 
Present Continuous - He is writing a new book these days. 
Present Perfect - He's written another book. 
Present Perfect Continuous - He's been writing a book for 2 years. 
Past Simple - He wrote a book last year. 
Past Continuous - He was writing his book from 2010 to 2012. 
Past Perfect - He had written a new book before he ran out of money. 
Past Perfect Continuous - He had been writing a new book for 5 years. 
Future Simple - He will write a book next year
Future Continuous - He will be writing a book this time next year.
