Over the recent five years or more my husband and I (A1) ... books for a living. Specifically, we (A2) ... books for eight to twelve
year-olds and teens. As co-writers, we have put together all sorts of stories featuring all sorts of heroes, from princesses and
trolls to singing horse riders. A few years ago we (A3) ... to try a new genre by adding goblins and various other monsters to our
cast of characters. Both our children have had the occasional nightmare, but it is our younger one, Susan, who is more fearful of
monsters. When she was four and her brother Kevin was seven, my husband and I (A4) ... to write a scary book. As the level of
the books was appropriate to my children's age, I thought I (A5) ... the book on them. I hadn't even finished reading them the
first chapter when my daughter sat up and yelled, "That's horrible! How could you write something like that?" Needless to say,
didn't finish the story. My seven-year-old son hadn't said anything, but it was obvious from his expression that he (A6) ... it. We
(A7) ... back to writing non-scary books now, as the experience has made us aware that children are extremely sensitive when
it comes to ghosts and things like that.
