ответьте на вопросы по тексту The first Olympic Games took place in 776 B.C. in a small-town Olympia, Greece. The Greeks demonstrated their athletic abilities in honour of their Gods. Firstly, only Greek men were allowed to participate. They competed in running, jumping, boxing, horse and chariot racing. Games were held every four years, and the winners were presented with a crown of olive branches. But the games were banned in 394 A.D. by the Roman emperor Theodosius I because they conflicted with Christianity.
After a long period, French Educator Pierre de Coubertin decided to revive the Olympic Games to encourage athletes for youth. He also formed The Olympic International Committee (IOC) in 1894. Nowadays, the Committee decides the programme of the Games, the number of the participants, and the place where the next Olympiad will be held. The first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896 in Athens, Greece. Athletes from 13 countries participated in the Games. Today, there are The Summer Games and The Winter games. The Summer Games are held during the summer season. They last for 16 days and include more than 270 sports events. The Winter Games are usually held in February. They include over 60 sports events.
The Olympic motto is Citius, Altius, Fortius that is Latin for Faster, Higher, Stronger. Pierre de Coubertin introduced the motto. He borrowed it from his friend Henri Didon, a Dominican priest who taught sport close to Paris. The Olympic rings were created in 1912. They represent five parts of the world: Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia, and the Americas. They are of five colors blue, yellow, black, green, and red, which are the five most used colours on national flags. The rings are displayed on the white background of the Olympic flag. The Olympic Flame is carried by long relay runners of athletes, celebrities, and ordinary people in a torch to the site of the games. It burns from the opening ceremony until the end of the games.
The Games start with the opening ceremony. Delegations led by flag bearers march in the stadium, representing the nations which participate in the games. Greece comes first, as the country that held The Olympics for the first time and the host nation comes in last. The Olympic Flag is carried and raised in the stadium. Athletes, judges, and coaches speak the Olympic oath in which they promise to do their best in a fair way. Then the torch relay comes, and an athlete lights the Olympic flame. After each event, the first three athletes get golden, silver, and bronze medals.
The modern Olympic Games have become very popular and successful. The Olympic Games unite people from different countries in friendship, who love watching them at the stadiums and on television.
