Generation Gap and Steps to Bridge It
Generation gap is defined as the difference in values and attitudes I)
especially
between young people and their parents. More specifically, a generation gap can be used to
describe the difference in actions, beliefs, tastes, etc. between members of younger generation
when compared to members of older generations. One of the 2)
is that the modern world
is changing rapidly; young people of today are more interested in their own lives rather than
thinking about others. And 3)
their parents find themselves lonely and unable to modify
their beliefs and attitudes according to modern standards. Besides, the adolescents of today are
more interested in money, glamour and fame, and 4)
all the comforts of life they forget
about their elders and their family. This attitude of youth is neither expected nor accepted by
the parents. Thus, the conflict arises.
However, some of the steps can be followed 5)
the generation gap between parents
and children. The first and foremost step to overcome misunderstanding between the two
generations is regular communication. Such 6)
is a good way to built up sincere,
respectful relationship between parents and children. The other way to bridge the gap is to
spend quality time together. You may be talking, having fun, travelling, going to the movies,
cooking and sharing food of each other's taste. This will help to realize 7)
each other.
More to the point, any gap cannot be filled until and unless each age group realizes the need of
the other. If parents need children to take care of them, 8)
to guide and protect them at
time of difficulty. And as a final step, the willingness to allow others to have their point of
view without making it a contest or a reason for arguing is the way that will help to bridge a
gap between two generations and create a kind, trustworthy and respectful relationship
between parents and children.
