Well, everyone talks about giving to friends and family, then spending on themselves. While that sounds noble, I definitely would not do that.
If I won, the lottery lets say 500million, I would use it as capital in order to set myself up for a good future. First, I would invest about 20million in my indexed account. Assuming the market grows at 7% per annum, I would earn over a million dollars per year. I would open up another brokerage account, invest 20 million and watch it grow.
Second, I would invest in peer to peer lending and crowdfunding. I would put a million each in about 20 different platforms throughout the globe and watch it grow.
Buy to let properties. I definitely would not buy any high end mansions. The world's richest people, those who can afford to rent these high end mansions only make up about 5% of the world's population, and any rich person in their right mind would definitely not rent. So I would buy modest 1 to 2 bedroom family sized apartments in areas near a school and shopping complex. Rent out these apartments and voila, another income stream created. I would dedicate 20 million to this project and each apartment will be costing 500 000 or less.
I would also buy a block of flats or houses near colleges and universities, renovate them to provide a capsule room that college students require. I would dedicate about 20 million to this project. Returns would probably be lower/slower but the gain from being able to provide affordable and quality student housing would be priceless.
100million done, 400 million more to go
My one dream has always been to fight pollution so I would definitely buy or start a recycling company. It would cover everything from plastics, paper, chemical and electronic recycling. I would also invest in adding updated educational material on the benefits of recycling for our planet to the exsisting school curriculum. I would also set up clean market spaces for farmers when they sell their produce, a state of the art facility with dedicated workforce in order to keep the place, clean and sanitary. 100million for my recycling business and 50 million for the farmer's market.
According to Maslow's hierachy of needs, food is a basic physiological need, so I would invest in a farm of course, engage in horticultural farming, sell the produce, and eat clean organic food in the process. I would definitely spare 50 million in order to ensure I am eating healthy.
Id set aside 100 million in a high yield deposit account. In oder to ensure I dont cash out my investments to cover an unforeseen expense, I need to manage my liquidity.
That would leave 100 million for personal growth and development. I would learn a couple of skills which are currently lacking, like driving, swimming, cycling and scuba diving. I would do my Masters in Business Administration and I would travel. I want to visit most Asian countries and Europe. Also, the States and Canada. I would visit most places in Africa. Id travel economy class of course and make new friends in the process.
I would also upgrade my closet to a capsule closet. Declutter my closet and but a few items that are timeless.
Finally, my home. I would invest in a loft apartment for my self. A small area with high ceilings and lots of windows. I would put in an office and library corner, something smart to manage my empire. Clean, functional kitchen space with all the appliances hidden away and quality cleaning service because I love clean living and time is precious.
After a year, I would be able to start giving money to charities. I would be able to do so regularly assuming my investments have grown. First, I would tackle period poverty in Africa, ensure that girls go to school and get home safe. I will invest in life education for them in order to help them hold on to their hopes and dreams and show them that that anything is possible. This includes financial literacy classes, business classes, motivational workshops and scholarships.
I would also donate to anti bullying charities. Help them with their work in oder to stem out all sorts of bullying from physical to cyber bullying.
I would also donate to animal protection groups, ensure my funds are channeled towards spaying and neutering cats and providing the best possible care for the cats to live out their lives.
Well, thats me. That is what I would do with 500 million lottery win. 36.1K viewsView 57 UpvotersView Sharers Related Questions (More Answers Below)
