Introduction
(5 minutes)
• Gather your students where they can see you.
• Show them the cover of A Tree is Nice by Janice May Udry
• Read the title and invite your students to describe the cover.
• Ask your students to think of why the author thinks “a tree is nice.”
• Tell your students to pay close attention to the different parts of a tree mentioned in the story.

• Read the story while pausing to note the leaves, branches, and fruit in the story.
