Kinetic energy is the energy that the object already has. If we drop an apple, it's highest kinetic energy will the just before it hits the ground

Potential energy is the opposite of the kinetic energy. It shows how much energy can the object get if it starts moving. Highest potential energy for the apple will be as soon as it just starts dropping
