Why are animals in danger?
A million years ago there were a lot more species of animals than there are now Of course, some species
disappear naturally, but today they are disappearing faster than before
Animals are in danger because we, people, can't protect them There are certainly changes in the weather
and some animals die because of these changes but there are a lot of endangered animals because people do not
think about them, they don't take care of animals
We put new buildings on empty land, we make new roads, we move rivers, we take away trees. In fact we
destroy the animals' natural habitats. We are taking the natural homes of animals very fast. Sometimes we take
animals from their natural home to a different country. In this new home, other animals do not know the
newcomer and are not afraid of it. Black rats went by ship from Asia to the Galapagos Islands and killed many
different species of birds. Some of those birds lived nowhere but on the Galapagos, and after the rats came
they disappeared
In many countries people make a lot of money from animals. Many animals are in danger because their
coats are beautiful and some people would like to have them, to put in their houses or to wear

IV. Choose the correct words:
Animals are in danger for several reasons. One reason is that there are fewer species of animals now compared to a million years ago. Some species naturally disappear over time, but the rate at which animals are disappearing today is faster than before. Another reason is that humans are not able to adequately protect animals. While changes in the weather can cause the death of some animals, the main reason for the large number of endangered animals is human negligence. People often do not think about animals and do not take care of them.
One of the major threats to animals is the destruction of their natural habitats by humans. People build new buildings on land that animals once lived on, make new roads, and move rivers. This destroys the homes of animals at a rapid pace. In some cases, animals are even taken from their natural homes and moved to different countries. When this happens, the new animals that encounter them are not familiar with them and do not fear them. This can cause harm, as seen in the case of black rats being brought from Asia to the Galapagos Islands. The rats killed many different species of birds that lived exclusively on the Galapagos Islands, leading to their disappearance.
Many animals are also in danger because humans see them as a way to make money. Some animals have beautiful coats that people want to have in their houses or wear as clothing. This desire for their coats puts those animals at risk.
