A staycation is a kind of holiday. Rather than go on holiday abroad, you stay at home and take day trips, by car, train, bus or bicycle but not by plane. In recent years, staycations in the UK have increased by about 25%.
Popular destinations are national parks, big cities, or the beach. And at the end of the day you can enjoy
sleeping in your own bed.
There are lots of advantages. 'I love going for day trips with my family,' says Natasha, aged 14. 'It's really stress
free compared with going on a long journey. You don't have to wait for hours in an airport or worry about
losing your bags.
The biggest advantage is that is helps the environment. You don't travel so far so you use less energy and
cause less pollution. You also save money on flights and hotels and all the other things that make overseas
travel so expensive.
