Read the text and do the task below.
You have to make a lot of decisions in your life. They are major and minor, but even the smallest
decision can turn your life around. That makes decision- making process stressful at times.
Let's have a look at what can help us make the right one.
Intuition
Although it is said to be just a feeling, it is actually a combination of your past experience and your
current values. Intuition may help you a great deal in making the right decision. But you don't have to
follow your intuition undoubtedly. For example, your previous experience could have become
irrelevant since you were a child, so you don't need to rely on it. Always think first.
Reasoning
Intuition is a great tool when it comes to simple or immediate decisions. More complicated
decisions require reasoning. Reasoning is evaluating all the facts and figures to make the right
decision. It may come in handy if you need to think clearly without any emotions involved.
Information
Information is a key element when it comes to making decisions. Nonetheless, too much or too
little information can cause troubles. On the one hand, lack of information will make you feel
insecure, as you don't have any basis to come to conclusions. On the other hand, too much
information is overwhelming and result in error of judgement. You must find out what pieces
of information are essential.
People
It is a good idea to involve other people in the decision-making process. Your parents can give
a good piece of advice based on their experience, and
your friends may also help you to deal with hard times. Although, you should be careful with
following any advice you're given. Tastes differ and people see things differently. Before
asking people for advice, make sure that you're on the same page with them.
Emotions
If you don't really care about the consequences of your decision, you have to think whether this
decision should be made by you. Otherwise, being too emotionally attached to the topic can
result in poor judgement. Where's the golden middle? Only you can tell.
