O RULES
We form questions in the past with
+ verb.
We form the negative in the past
with __+ verb.
1. For forming questions in the past tense, we use the word "did" before the subject, followed by the base form of the verb (verb without "to"). For example: "Did you go home?", "Did he go home?", "Did we go home?", etc.
2. For forming short answers in the affirmative, we simply use the word "yes" followed by the subject. For example: "Yes, I did.", "Yes, you did.", "Yes, he did.", "Yes, we did.", etc.
3. For forming short answers in the negative, we use the word "no" followed by the subject and the word "didn't" (which is the contracted form of "did not"). For example: "No, I didn't.", "No, you didn't.", "No, he didn't.", "No, we didn't.", etc.
4. For forming wh-questions in the past tense, we use the word "did" before the subject, followed by the question word (such as "what", "when", "where", etc.), and then the base form of the verb. For example: "What time did you go home?", "What time did he go home?", "What time did we go home?", etc.
5. For forming negatives in the past tense, we use the word "didn't" (which is the contracted form of "did not") before the main verb. For example: "You didn't find her.", "He didn't find her.", "She didn't find her.", "We didn't find her.", etc.
In summary, to form questions in the past tense, we use "did" before the subject and the base form of the verb. For negatives, we use "didn't" before the main verb.
