The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated in the north of Europe on two large islands and many smaller ones. It consists of four parts: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. London is the capital of the country and of England. the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. The country is washed by the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, the Irish Sea and the English Channel. Great Britain is a highly developed industrial country. 3. . It is one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of iron and steel products, machinery and electronics, chemicals and textile, aircraft and navigation
equipment. One of the main industries of the country is shipbuilding. Great Britain is a country with old cultural traditions and customs. The most famous educational centers are Oxford and Cambridge Universities. The United Kingdom is a monarchy. 4. . But in practice it is governed by the elected Parliament with the Prime Minister at the head. The
Parliament consists of two chambers: the House of Lords and the House of Commons.
