The united states of america is the worlds fourth largest country. only russia, canada and china have bigger territories than us. there are fifty states in the country. forty-eight are in the same part on north america. the other two are alaska in the north and hawaii situated on eight island in the pacific.the united states stretches from the pacific ocean to the atlantic ocean which wach the country in the west and in the east. long mountain chains run down the pasific coast. in this part of the country is death valley the lowest place in north and south americas. here too is the grand canyon which the colorado river made millions of years ago. in some places it is about 6 km deep. father east lie the tall peaks of the rocky mountains that run from canada to mexico. beyond them stretcn the great plains where the mighty mississippi river flows.another mountain chain the appalachians runs down the eastern part of the united states. the usa borders on canada in the north where the five great lakes are situared and mexico in the south.

Соединённые Штаты Америки -- 4-ая по величине страна мира. Лишь Россия,Канада и Китай опережают её по площади территорий. В стране 50 штатов. 48 из них находятся в Северной Америке. Два других -- это Аляска на севере и Гавайи,расположенной на 8 островах в Тихом океане. Соединённые Штаты протянулись от Тихого до Атлантического океанов,которые омывают страну с запада и востока соответственно. Длинная горная цепь проходит по побережью Тихого океана. В этой части страны находится Долина Смерти -- самое ужасное место в обеих Америках. Здесь также есть Гранд-Каньон,который миллионы лет назад проделала река Колорадо. В некоторых местах его глубина достигает 6 километров. Далее расположились высокие вершины Скалистых гор,пробегающих от Канады до Мексики. По другую сторону от них -- Великие равнины,где протекает могущественная Миссисипи. Другая горная цепь,Аппалачи,спускается по восточной части Соединённых Штатов. США граничит с Канадой на севере и с Мексикой на юге.
