Текст "The Grand Canyon" (Fill in the gaps using the verbs in a proper tense: Past Simple, Past Continuous or Present Perfect. Use short forms in negative sentences.)
Dear Mom,
Guess where I am writing this letter from —I am sitting on the edge of the Grand Canyon! We
(leave) Santa Fe two nights ago and
(come) here early yesterday morning. And let me tell you, the Grand Canyon is really GRAND! I
(take) lots of pictures already for you to see, and I will be taking some more soon, but really Mom, you won’t believe how big it is! It stretches 277 miles from end to end — a mile deep and a mile across in some places — and there are so many incredible colours in the rock! Blues, reds, violets, oranges, greens, yellows and so on.
There's a funny story about the time the Spanish first
(discover) the canyon. When a Spanish explorer
(come) here first in 1540, he
(send) two of his men down into the canyon to explore. He
(tell) them, "Go down there and have a quick look around." A quick look around! Not surprisingly, they never
(come) back. They just
(die) down there while they
(have) a "quick look around." You see, the Spanish had never imagined even something so big before, so they
(not/be able) to guess its real size.
Anyhow, probably we are going to spend a few days camping here, but we
(not/decide) yet what we are going to do after that.
See you in a couple more weeks.
Love, Mike.
