Task 4. Write a short text on the topic “Internet addiction among teenagers” (Интернет-зависимость среди подростков) (about 80-110 words) (3 points)
Introduction:
Internet addiction among teenagers is becoming a concerning issue in today's society. With the widespread availability of the internet and the increasing use of smartphones and social media, many teenagers find themselves spending excessive amounts of time online. This essay will discuss the reasons behind internet addiction, the pros and cons of using the internet, the consequences it can have, and my personal opinion and experience on the matter.

Reasons of the addictions:
There are several reasons why teenagers may become addicted to the internet. Firstly, the internet provides a vast amount of information and entertainment which can be addictive. Additionally, social media platforms offer a sense of belonging and validation, leading teenagers to spend more time online. Lastly, the anonymity provided by the internet can make it tempting for teenagers to engage in risky behaviors, such as online gaming or chatting with strangers.

Pros and Cons of using the Internet:
The internet has many benefits for teenagers. It allows them to access educational resources, connect with friends and family, and explore different cultures and perspectives. However, excessive internet use can have negative consequences. It can lead to decreased physical activity, social isolation, and difficulties in forming real-life relationships. Moreover, exposure to inappropriate content and cyberbullying are also risks associated with internet use.

Consequences:
Internet addiction can have serious consequences on a teenager's mental and physical health. It can lead to decreased academic performance, sleep disturbances, anxiety, and depression. Furthermore, excessive use of social media can negatively impact self-esteem and body image, as teenagers are constantly exposed to curated and unrealistic portrayals of others' lives.

Personal opinion\experience:
In my opinion, while the internet offers numerous benefits, it is essential for teenagers to maintain a healthy balance in their internet usage. Having personally witnessed the negative effects of excessive internet use on my friends, such as decreased social interaction and academic struggles, I believe it is crucial for teenagers to be aware of the risks and create boundaries for themselves. Finding alternative hobbies, spending time outdoors, and engaging in face-to-face interactions can help in overcoming internet addiction and leading a balanced life.

In conclusion, internet addiction among teenagers is a concerning issue with various reasons, pros and cons, and consequences. It is crucial for teenagers to be aware of the risks associated with excessive internet use and to establish a healthy balance in their online activities. Only by doing so can they fully benefit from the internet while minimizing its negative effects on their well-being.
