Sergey Pavlovich Korolev was the _1__ (FOUND) of Russian Astronautics. He was the head Soviet rocket engineer and _2___(DESIGN) who constructed Earth sputniks and _3__(SHIP). Korolev was born in 1906 in the small town of Zhitomir. He spent his _4__ (CHILD) with his grandparents. Since his early days he was good at technical subjects. He showed wonderful _5__ (ABLE) in Maths and at the age of 17 he joined a Glider Pilots' Club where he learned to construct gliders and to fly them. After his _6__ (LEAVE) for Moscow in 1925 he entered the Bauman Higher Technical School. During the Great Patriotic War Korolev worked at the _7__ (CREATE) of airplanes and rockets. The first man-made sputnik was the result of his hard work. The first _8__ (FLY) into space took place in April 1961. Since that time the 12th of April is celebrated _9___ (ANNUAL) as the Day of Cosmonautics in our country.
