I did not have a lot of friends when I was young, but I do not

think I ever felt unhappy or lonely. My teachers said  that I had a lot of imagination and it is true that, as I explored the dark, exciting forests that surrounded our  house, I liked to talk to the people who lived only in my mind.

One of my favourite characters was a pretty young girl who had a

wonderful laugh. We spent many hours together, telling  each other funny stories and jokes. Of course, I knew she was not a real person, but she was  surprisingly like the lady  met and marry twenty years later.
