Do you have what it takes to become a professional footballer? It certainly isn’t easy as it takes a
lot of time, energy and even pain to become the best of the best. But it is possible, and here’s
how.
Professional footballers start young. They often have special lessons at sports academies. If you
can’t afford those types of academies, you can take part in matches with the school team or join
another local team. Live football. Watch matches, read tips and listen to what professional
footballers say. Play lots of football, lots of football, but make sure you take the time to recover
from any injuries. Motivation is also essential. Success does not happen overnight. There will be
cold, rainy days when you have to go running in the park. There’ll be matches when you don’t
play as well as you wanted or lose to the other team. Focus on the future, but plan for it every
day.
Training regularly is very important and to do that you have to be fit and healthy. Getting fit is
not just about running and kicking a ball. It’s a great idea to work out in a gym on lots of
different machines to exercise all your body’s muscles. A professional footballer’s body is a
machine that needs the right fuel. You’ll need to have a good diet with plenty of lean meat, fruit
and vegetables, lots of water and enough sleep at night. You have to avoid junk food, fizzy
drinks and late nights. It can take a lot of self-control to be in bed at ten when all your friends are
at a party, but it has to be done.
Of course, it also takes a little bit of luck. Professional football teams are always looking out for
talented new players and they send people to watch local matches or see young players at sports
academies. Getting seen by a talent scout is the ambition of every young player, but you might
not play well that day or the talent scout might choose someone else. But if you’ve followed all
the advice and are lucky enough to be spotted, you could be on your way to becoming what you
have always dreamed of – a professional footballer.
