Chernihiv is a city of Ukraine, the regional center of the Chernihiv region. It is one of the oldest cities in Ukraine, founded at the end of the 7th century at the confluence of the Stryzhen River with the Desna. During the Middle Ages, Chernihiv was one of the main cities of Kievan Rus and, according to historians, one of the largest cities in Europe at that time, the capital of the Chernihiv Principality, which included Kuban, the Kerch Peninsula, Murom, and Ryazan.

Chernihiv is divided into 2 districts: Desnyansky and Novozavodskyi. The revenues of the city budget in 2022 are set at 3.428 billion hryvnias, and expenditures at 3.424 billion hryvnias. The leading industries in Chernihiv are: chemical, food, light, building materials, and woodworking.

Chernihiv has a railway station, a bus station, and 2 bus stations. city bus carriers and the trolleybus network. Passenger transportation is characterized by an extensive route network: 46 bus and 11 trolleybus routes. Since 2000, transportation in the city has been carried out by private entrepreneurs, which led to a significant expansion of the route network, which covered all districts and microdistricts of the city.
