Наиболее блестящий период в Английской литературе был во второй половине 16 века и начале 17 века. Иногда это называют "Елизаветинский век" после правления Елизаветы 5. Англия стала великой мировой державой.  Оно заключило широкий коммерческий контракт со странами и была организована богатая торговая компания. Англичане были теперь Грация нации и обогащённый английский язык не был похож на язык Чосера. Появилось много поэтических и прозаических работ. Среди тех, кто обогатили литературный период были Филипп Сидней, Эдмунт Спенсер и Кристофер Марлоу. Там были прекрасные произведения поэзии и прозы в Елизаветинский век, но самых больших высот в литературе были достигнуты в драме.
