Shawn Mendes (born Shawn Peter Raul Mendes on August 8, 1998) is a Canadian singer and songwriter. He gained a following in 2013, when he began posting covers of songs by other artists on the video-sharing application Vine. The following year, he signed with Island Records and released his debut single "Life of the Party".

He has since released two studio albums: Handwritten (2015) and Illuminate (2016). Mendes gained mainstream success with the release of his third album, Shawn Mendes (2018), which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. The album and its lead single, "In My Blood", both reached the top 10 in several countries.
