Ecology (Russian pre-reef oikologiya [1]) (from other Greek - οἶκος - abode, dwelling, house, property and λόγος - concept, teaching, science) - the science of the interactions of living organisms and their communities among themselves and with the surrounding medium. The term was first proposed by German biologist Ernst Haeckel in 1866 in the book "General morphology of organisms" ("Generelle Morphologie der Organismen").
