Exercise 1: Using Abbreviations with Titles.

Write the abbreviation for each of the titles in the following sentences. Then rewrite the sentences in which the abbreviations can be used appropriately in formal writing, using the abbreviations.

EXAMPLE: Alan Hill, Doctor of Dental Surgery, lives next door.

D.D.S. Alan Hill, D.D.S., lives next door.

2. Major General Barker plans to present several awards at a ceremony today.

3. I went to Doctor Powers when I was sick because I had confidence in him.

4. The name plate on his desk read “Derek Felton, Registered Nurse.”

6. Marjorie Block, Esquire, is planning a trip to Belgium and France this summer.

7. The parents planned to call their new son Tobias Halstern Junior.

8. Father Leakins led the congregation in the Sunday morning worship.
