As chapter three continues john and jenny are allowed to bring marley home. john has been doing some research on his own about their new lab, their seems to be only one problem they had done no prior research prior to choosing marley. what he found out about the breed gave him relief but also a little fear. john discovers that their are two forms of the lab breed. the english form of the breed which are more house pets, and the american form of the breed which thought history have been working, and farm dogs. marley happened to fall under the category of the american version of the breed, which by the american kennel club says that the breed is known for being very social and didn't like being left alone, their energy, muscular stature, and very physically strong. this being john's fear, after meeting the father at the breeders house, he hopes marley would be calm like his mother. after marley spends his first night at the grogan house one thing is realized, that he cannot stand to be left alone. so that meant that sleeping in the garage, or as otherwise known as the indestructible bunker, was out of the question. after the first few hours of agonizing barks and crys marley was moved into the breed room where john and jenny slept.
