3. Read the story about Irene’s family. Check your comprehension choosing the right variant.
 I’m Irene. I’m 21. My dad is quite old, he’s 65. My mum’s about 20
years younger. I have two brothers. Tom, who is five years older than me,
is a computer programmer so he’s good at computers. His main interest is
music and he’s fond of playing the guitar and the piano. He’s married to
Jessica, she is a librarian, but I am not sure that she is interested in her job
because she’s always busy with other things such as cooking or knitting.
They are in Newcastle, and have two children – a boy and a girl.
My other brother, Steve, is far away in Canada. He’s a ski instructor
and his wife Julia is a dancing master. They have three children, so I have
two nieces and three nephews. At Christmas my bag is always full of
 presents for them.
I’ve got eight cousins but only one grandparent, my grandmother on
my mother’s side. Her home is also very far from us so I have chats with
her over the Internet. My mum has two brothers and sisters and my dad
has three brothers and two sisters.
In England the typical family is husband and wife and two children,
and a dog and a cat. We have two cats. They were my cats but now they
are with my mum. We also had a dog, a golden collie, but he was very
sick – so that was a sad story.
My dad was a businessman but now he is retired. He’s a very
interesting man for me and he is the head of the family. My mum is a
housewife. She’s very kind, generous and hardworking.
Now I don’t have very close contact with my family because I am a
student at university which is in another city far from home but our
 relationship is still very warm.
